Busy isn’t a badge of honour.

I’ve been talking about being busy quite a bit lately on socials.

Probably because we all seem to be very good at it.

Ask someone how they are and there’s a fair chance the answer will be, “Busy!”

But is busy actually what we’re aiming for?

I don’t think so.

You can spend an entire day answering emails, jumping between jobs, sorting out everyone else’s problems and ticking things off a very impressive to-do list…and still finish the day wondering what you actually achieved.

I’ve had those days. I’m pretty sure we all have.

So, here’s something I often suggest to my coaching clients.

Pick three things.

Not the 17 things you’d like to get done.

The three things that actually matter today.

And while you’re looking at that list, ask yourself another question:

Why am I doing this?

Does it need to be done?

Does it need to be done now?

And, most importantly, does it need to be done by you?

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Sometimes the answer is, “Well, I’ve always done it.”

That’s probably worth another look.

What do you actually want from your business?

We spend so much time working in our businesses that it’s surprisingly easy to forget to think about where they’re going.

So, with the end of 2026 starting to appear on the horizon, here’s something to ponder over your next coffee.

What would you like your business to look like this time next year?

Maybe you want more clients.

Maybe you want fewer clients, but better ones.

Maybe you want to make more money.

Maybe you want to work fewer hours.

Maybe you’d simply like to take a holiday without checking your phone every five minutes.

There’s no right answer.

And your answer can change.

Time Made started as an idea back in 2009. It’s still here in 2026, but it certainly hasn’t looked the same for all of those years.

There have been different services, different clients, different priorities and plenty of changes along the way.

That’s one of the things I’ve learnt about business.

You’re allowed to change the plan.

Sometimes you just need someone to talk it through with

That’s a big part of what I do as a coach.

I’m not going to hand you a five-step formula for running the perfect business.

I don’t have one.

And I’d be suspicious of anyone who said they did.

What I can do is give you the time and space to talk through what’s happening, ask some good questions, challenge you occasionally, and help you work out what makes sense for you.

Sometimes you already know the answer.

You just haven’t had enough quiet space to hear yourself think.

And sometimes the answer is simply:

Stop doing so much.

Because productivity isn’t about squeezing another five jobs into Tuesday.

It’s about making sure the things you spend your time on are actually worth doing.

Effective results over busyness.
